I first came up with the name Boxheater Jackson back in 2016, when my friend Alex Conrad and I started Alpha Mundo; a dance music night at a club called Mono, which was in Falmouth. The idea was to merge the old school ethics and ideals of the early acid house scene and conceptually take them into the future.
At the same time, I was also running Kill Dogma Hoodoo, a rockabilly night in the same club as DJ Big Vern Burns (a name given to by the Rev AJW, when I used to play with him at the Double Gone Chapel in Shoreditch back in 2004). So to avoid any confusion I gave myself what I thought would be a good house music name.
The name 'Boxheater' came from a road junction on the A30 in Cornwall; every time I past by, it inspired me. Back in the early days there where so many different jackin' tracks about boxes, such as 'Jack the Box', 'Work the Box' and so on, so the name just stuck and Boxheater Jackson was born.
My connection to the Guv, goes right back to the The Old Trout in Windsor, Queens in Colnbrook, and Studio Valbonnes in Maidenhead in 1988, He also used to put me on the guest list for Shoom at Busby's every Wednesday - There was a period back then when we all felt like one massive family, going out pretty much every night of the week.
The fallout following 1988/89 left me a little frazzled to say the least, Andrew became an icon after working with the Primals and I didn't really see him for some years, apart from being on the occasional dance floor here and there.
I reconnected to him when my best friend at the time, Keith Tenniswood, was offered a job as a sound engineer at Sabre-sonic Studios, in the now legendary Flightpath Estate. When that part of Andrew's life was finished, everything slowly evolved into 2 Lone Swordsmen, The Rotters Golf Club Studios, and Haywire.
At that point, I was a budding hip-hop DJ and Producer called J-Stretch. Andrew used to let me use the Golf Club during downtime and at weekends to make beats, he also used to let me DJ in the back rooms of his London based parties playing funk and hip-hop.
I am forever grateful for his kindness and support, I learned so much from just sitting around, making tea and just being part of the woodwork, the Golf Club was my sanctuary away from the mundanity and madness of city living.
With the release of my first album 'We Are One', and now my second Boxheater Jackson album, 'Indigenous State Of Mind', I have tried my best to do Andrew's kindness justice by blending postpunk, proto house, acid-house, ALFOS, Gnostic sonic, spirituality, and even a bit of space rock for good measure - all in my own style...
The main concept behind the new album is healing, following intuition and instincts, reconnecting and getting back into sync with this the planet we live on and sharing some of the inspired mystical wisdom and knowledge that I have accrued while travelling the paths of my own healing journey.
