"Music has been something I have been passionate about throughout my life. I was born and bred in the city of Plymouth in Devon. The city itself would shape my musical project; Shrieky.

My journey of music appreciation and making has been wild. As a child, I was raised on CDs and MP3s listening to many different things like Simple Minds and the Beatles through my parents. However in my teens I felt the need to rebel, moving on to 70s UK Punk like the Clash and going across the pond, 80's Hardcore bands like Black Flag and Dead Kennedys. I wanted to be in a Punk band with a wide array of political messages.

However, around the age of 16, I got really into Hip Hop, gaineding a wider appreciation for sampling and lyricism. I loved the raw gritty rhymes of the Wu-Tang Clan and also a rising star named Kendrick Lamar. When I was 18 and legally an adult, I could finally enter clubs. Going to underground clubs in Plymouth rocked my world. I started hearing all sorts of Electronic music like Jungle, Breakbeat Hardcore, Acid House, Garage, Grime and most importantly... Techno. Venues in Plymouth like Voodoo Lounge, The Hub, White Rabbit, Factory and Hanging Gardens had nationwide and local DJs spinning wide array of songs (unfortunately these local clubs have all but shutdown). Around this time, age 21, I really loved Trip Hop and electronic artists such as Aphex Twin, Burial, Tricky, The Bug and Massive Attack. I was also attending Dance festivals all over the country.

All these artists helped inspire my project; Shrieky. The first few tracks were atmospheric ambient songs in which I made use of loops, sampling and interesting things from my microphone. Then 2020 Covid-19 happened and we were all starved from entering the clubs or hearing a DJ through loud speakers. I moved away from my ambient sound and started to experiment. This was also the time where I first got in contact with my friend and collaborator, Granite Shadow, who also hails from the South West and is featured on this album. My sound now generally leans towards Techno with a few other little things added in between.

I am very fortunate to be releasing an album through such a legendary South West record label as Mighty Force who are such an important electronic music imprint in this part of the country, but also to this small little island of Britain and beyond."
